The Mongolian Red Steppe is a recently developed composite that initially began with imported Red Steppe cattle. Then, starting in 1949, crossbreeding with Mongolian and Shorthorn cattle began.
In 1973, the Red Steppe Breeding Coordination Group in Mongolia was founded.
In 1985, the ‘Mongolian Red Steppe’ cattle breed was officially approved.
