The Frieswal, a composite breed, originated from Holstein-Friesian × Sahiwal on a military dairy farm in Meerut.
Frieswal breeding continues on the military dairy farms of Ambal, Jalladhar, Lucknow, Bareilly and Dehradun in India. The aim has been to breed a composite with (5/8) Holstein genotype, which is usually achieved after six generations of rotation crossbreeding.
