Pizán
(most common name)
The Pizán, considered to be a biotype of Ecuador Criollo, is found in the province of Carchi in the north of Ecuador along the border of Colombia.
Starting in 1920, the Pizán was developed as a dairy breed; a uniform herd was established by 1945 when a Holstein-Friesian bull was purchased and used for upgrading.
The Pizán is tall for a Criollo type due to this Holstein influence.
Pizán coat colors include:
• rose-red (95% of the cattle)
• coffee-colored
