Panjiang
盘江牛
(most common name)
(local/other name):
• Guangnan
• Guanling (in Guizhou Province)
• Guxi (in Guangxi Autonomous Region)
• Longlin
• Wenshan (in Yunnan Province)
The Panjiang is an authentic mountain breed found in south-central China in several scattered districts in the border area of the provinces of:
• Guangxi
• Guizhou
• Yunnan
The Panjiang is described as:
• typical medium-framed humped cattle
• yellow (usually)
• brown
• black
• spotted (occasionally)
• horns of various shapes
The Guanling, Wenshan and Longlin have been regarded as Panjiang varieties. However, because microsatellite studies appear to show that the Guanling and Longlin are distinct from each other — whether they both should be grouped into the single Panjiang breed is now questioned.
