The Mongolian Beef is a Turano-Mongolian breed.

The Mongolian Beef is bred both in Mongolia and in the autonomous region of Inner Mongolia (Nei Mongol) which is located in the northern part of China and borders on Mongolia.

Turano-Mongolian, in reference to cattle, refers to a distinctive skull formation that includes:
• a wedge-shaped skull
• a depression on the frontal bone
• a narrow crown
• horns growing straight-up
