French Guiana Criollo -cow- French Guiana

French Guiana Criollo
(most common name in English)

also named:
• Créole
• Criollo of French Guiana

The French Guiana Criollo began with Criollo cattle imported from Trinidad and Barbados from 1500–1700.

French Guiana Criollo oxen were once widely used on sugar cane plantations, however after mechanization their numbers fell sharply. By 1990, most were replaced by imported Brahman and Santa Gertrudis cattle.

Also, supposedly cattle from Senegal (breed unknown) imported into French Guiana in 1830 introduced trypanosomes to South America.
