The Criollo Arroyos y Esteros is a locally adapted Criollo type that has been heavily admixed by Nelore and Brahman.

The Criollo Arroyos y Esteros is native to the river basin of Arroyos y Esteros in the Pantanal land of the Eastern region in Paraguay. Arroyos y Esteros is a district of the Cordillera Department in Paraguay and is completely surrounded by rivers.

The Pantanal is a tropical wetland area, filled with flooded grasslands. Although mostly located within the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul, the Pantanal also extends into Mato Grosso and portions of Bolivia and Paraguay.
