The Coreño is a subtype of Mexican Criollo and has been studied since 1982.
The Coreño is named after the Middle American Indian people known as the Cora who live in the states of Jalisco and Nayarit in western Mexico.
Most Cora families keep a cow for milk and cheese. The Cora commonly live in households in the countryside that are clustered in loose groups of 1 to 12. These clusters are called rancherias.
