1 – Collect the Parts for a Holiday Tree
• 80 " of chain
• 36" dowel
• 28" dowel
• 20" dowel
• 12" dowel
• 4" dowel
• steel ring (optional – hanging it up by the chain alone is sufficient and it also will hang straighter.)
• ceiling hook (size 12 – if you use a really heavy chain, use a more sturdy hook.)
• 10 screw eyes (size 14)
2 – Paint the Dowels
• Because I had it in my paint box, I used:
Prang - Tempera Paint - Ready-to-Use - Green
(4 coats)
• Because tempera is not waterproof like acrylic, I coated them using:
Varathane Polyurethane - Interior - Crystal Clear
(Easy Water Clean-Up)
3 – Screw in the Screw Eyes
• Screw a screw eye into the end of each dowel.
4 – Arrange the Tree Parts
• Place the dowels approximately 8" apart so they form a tree triangle.
• Place the chain so it outlines the tree triangle.
5 – Attach the Chain
• The links on this chain were too tight to slip onto the screw eye loops easily.
• So each screw eye was unscrewed and than re-screwed through the chain and back into the dowel to hold it that way. There was a bit of fiddling as to which exact link to go through to get the dowels to hang relatively parallel to each other.
• The use of jump rings or a chain with larger links would avoid this problem.
6 – Hang the Tree
• This tree was hung over a fireplace using a ceiling hook to help push it away from the wall a bit.
7 – Decorate the Tree
• And there you have it - a Holiday Tree that hangs on the wall!
• And when the season is over, collapse the tree for storage:
