Vado al mercato con la mucca.
I go to the market with the cow.
stage direction: Giacomo waves to Mamma.
stage direction: Mamma waves back and exits.
stage direction: Old Man enters.
OLD MAN
Ecco tre fagioli magici.
Here are three beans magical.
GIACOMO
Prendi la mucca.
You take the cow.
stage direction: Old Man takes cow and exits.
stage direction: Mamma enters.
MAMMA
Stupido, una mucca per tre fagioli?
Stupid, a cow for three beans?
GIACOMO
Ma, mamma . . .
But, Mamma . . .
stage direction: Mamma scowls and moves to another spot.
stage direction: Giacomo throws down the beans and watches a stalk grow.
NARRATOR
Nasce una pianta alta.
It buds a plant tall.
GIACOMO
Magia! E una casa grande! Vado.
Magic! And a house big! I go.
stage direction: Giacomo climbs the stalk, enters Gigante’s house and hides behind the table.
stage direction: Gigante enters with a sack of money and starts counting it on the table.
GIGANTE
Mi piace monete d’oro.
I like money of gold.
stage direction: Gigante falls asleep and starts snoring.
GIACOMO
Finalmente! Prendo le monete!
Finally! I take the money.
stage direction: Giacomo steals the money and returns to Mamma.
GIACOMO
Ecco monete.
Here is money.
MAMMA
Bravo! Ritorni.
Good job! You return.
stage direction: Giacomo sneaks back into the sleeping giant’s house.
stage direction: A hen and golden eggs appear.
GIACOMO
Una gallina? Con uove d’oro? Prendo!
A hen? With eggs of gold? I take!
stage direction: Giacomo takes the hen and golden eggs back to Mamma.
GIACOMO
Ecco una gallina magica!
Here is a magic hen!
MAMMA
Bravissimo! Ritorni.
Really good job! You return.
stage direction: Giacomo sneaks back into the giant’s house.
stage direction: A golden harp appears.
GIACOMO
Un’arpa d’oro? Prendo!
A harp of gold? I take!
stage direction: Giacomo steals the harp.
stage direction: Gigante awakens and chases Giacomo.
GIACOMO
Aiuto! Il gigante!
Help! The giant!
GIGANTE
Ladro! Ti mangio!
Thief! You, I eat!
stage direction: Giacomo grabs a hatchet and chops down the stalk.
GIACOMO
Ciao, gigante.
Bye, giant.
stage direction: Gigante falls to the ground.
stage direction: Mamma rushes to Giacomo.
MAMMA
Giacomo, mio eroe!
Jack, my hero!
