Development of the Polled Lincoln Red by Eric Pentecost began in 1939 when he crossed red and black Aberdeen-Angus bulls with Lincoln Red cows to begin the breed.

The Polled Lincoln Red was officially recognized in 1952 or 1956 (depending on source), became a trend and, in 1960, the Lincoln Red Shorthorn Association became the Lincoln Red Cattle Society.

Today, all Lincoln Reds are now polled.
