Pampa
(local/other name)
(most common name)
(transboundary/brand name):
• Hereford
The Pampa is listed as a Criollo-Hereford crossbreed by Felius (1995).
Mason (Dictionary 2020) lists Pampa as a synonym for Hereford.
Mason (Encyclopedia 2016) does not list it at all.
In DAD-IS (Domestic Animal Diversity Information System) under Uruguay, only the name Hereford is in formal use and it is listed as a ‘continually imported population’.
A Hereford herdbook was established in 1887 in Uruguay.
As of 2021, internet searches reveal that the name Pampa is still in use in South America. For example, the Associação Brasileira de Hereford e Braford (Brazilian Association of Hereford and Braford) is also known as Criador Pampa Pampiano (Breeders of Hereford and Braford).
(Spanish) Pampa = Hereford
