local/other name (English):
• Nantais
The Nantaise is essentially a Parthenais of a different color whose major use now is for the production of veal calves.
The Nantaise is described as:
• medium size
• light fawn coat (usually)
• light grey or pearl grey coat (occasionally)
• black muzzle
The Nantaise was amalgamated into the Parthenais breed in 1893 and had its own section in the Parthenais herdbook. Although absorption was formalized in 1955, conservation as a distinct breed was decided upon in the 1980s.
In 1989, a Nantaise association was formed. Afterwards, 19 bulls were deemed suitable for use in AI and numbers increased mostly in Pays de la Loire and eastern Brittany.
