The Mongolian Bareback yak is a type of Mongolian Yak (which is a domestic yak).

Although yaks are a separate species, they are a subgenus of genus Bos — so they are a close relative of cattle. The domestic yak (Bos grunniens) is a very important addition to domestic livestock in use today.

The distinguishing characteristic of Bareback yaks is the short hairs found on their rumps during wintertime.
