Minhota
(most common name)
(local/other name):
• Galega
• Raça Bovina Minhota
The Minhota was declining as a breed until a herdbook was established in 1996.
Concerted efforts since then, using both artificial insemination and a conservation program increased the Minhota numbers to over 13,000 in 2017. However, as of 2020, numbers have decreased to 6,447 and the breed is considered to be ‘at risk’ and ‘vulnerable’.
