Hays Converter -bull- Canada

Hays Converter
(most common name)

The Hays Converter is a recently developed breed from the province of Alberta that was started in 1957 and is named after Harry Hays.

Using eight young bulls that were sired by a Holstein named ‘Fond Hope’ — Hays started the first step of his breeding program by crossing them with Hereford heifers.

The goal of creating the Hays Converter has essentially been to make a breed that will convert feed to meat on their bodies as efficiently as possible during their first year of life. This way they can be taken to market earlier.

The first purebred Certificate of Registration for the Hays Converter was issued by the Canadian Department of Agriculture in 1975.
