The Guangfeng is an authentic breed found in Guangfeng county in northern Jiangxi province.

The Guangfeng is a strong working animal with good conformation and has the nickname: ‘cattle with the steel hooves’. They have been regularly exported to surrounding areas.

Kept pure because the breeding district is isolated, microsatellite studies indicate Guangfengs have a genotype of 13.9% zebu.

In 1982, the Guangfeng was listed as endangered, however the population as of 2014 is 600,000 and increasing.
