The German Beef Simmental is a variety of German Simmental that began development in the former East Germany in the 1970s. Polling began to be bred for in Bavaria in 1974; two polled Simmental bulls were then placed in action in 1984. Since 1990, almost all the stud bulls in action are polled.
The German Beef Simmental can be found in the five eastern states of Germany and represents 30–55% of the total beef cattle herd.
