The Friuli-Simmental is bred mainly in the region of Friuli in northeast Italy.
The original Friuli (also named Friulana in Italian; Friauler in German; Red Friuli in English) was a large red-colored draught breed that had a high percentage of Steppe cattle blood in its composition. As a separate breed, the Friuli is now extinct.
