The Ebian Spotted is bred by the Yi (an ethnic group) in southern Sichuan and is used for beef, draught, religious ceremony and status.

The Ebian Spotted reaches maturity at 14–18 months, however its first breeding is usually at around 3 years of age.

The Ebian Spotted was listed as an endangered breed by Chen Yoachun in 1990.
