The Selenge is a locally developed crossbreed for beef using a Kazakh Whiteheaded bull and a Mongolian cow (Kazakh Whiteheaded X Mongolian). Selenge is a province in the northern part of Mongolia through which flows the Selenga River (Selenge gol in Mongolian).
