The Gir is a heavily-built zebu breed which originated in the Gujarat state on the west coast of India.
The Gir has very distinctive head consisting of:
• a bulging convex forehead
• thick horns which grow backwards and curl upwards in a partial spiral
• long drooping ears
The Gir, through export, is also found in Brazil and Sri Lanka.
