The Nanyang is an indigenous breed found in the region of Nanyang in the Henan Province. A herdbook was established in 1982 and its principal distribution point is the city of Nanyang.
The Nanyang is genetically close to the Jiaxian Red — with both having a cervicothoracic hump on the bulls.
