Amritmahal -bull- India

Amritmahal
(most common name)

(local/other name):
• Doddadana
• Jawari Dana
• Number Dana

The Amritmahal is a Mysore Zebu breed and was first developed using the Hallikar. Later, the Hagalvadi and the Chitaldrug strains were used. (These two strains were later merged with the Hallikar and are now considered extinct.)

‘Amritmahal’ literally translates to ‘nectar department’ in English. Breeding was the responsibility of the Indian government.

Mysore Zebu cattle, in contrast with other Indo-Pakistani zebu breeds, have:
• a tight body skin overall
• a smaller dewlap
• a tight sheath on the males
• a tight navel fold on the females
