Four Categories with Three Finalists in Each:
- Dramatic Interpretation - Tell us a somewhat serious story in five minutes or less that you have memorized.
- Humorous Interpretation - Tell us a funny story in five minutes or less that you have memorized.
- Prose/Poetry Reading - With the book in hand, read us a passage from your favorite book or read one poem in five minutes or less.
- Duet/Trio Acting - Act out a scene from a play or movie in ten minutes or less. (Only teams of two or three students per entry in Duet/Trio Acting.)
RULES:
- Santa Rita Elementary students only, open to all grades, one category only for each entrant.
- Original material is allowed.
- Do not go over the time limit.
- No props, costumes or theatrical make-up.
- Chairs are allowed, if needed for your performance.
Sign-Up Notebook will be in the Office starting March 24: All grades may sign-up March 24 - April 4. (If there are still openings, students may sign-up for additional categories April 7 -11.)
Preliminary Judging May 5 - 9 to Determine the Finalists:
All preliminary performances will be filmed and posted on a password-protected page on the Kranky Kids website. The judges will view them online to decide the finalists. Preliminary judges will include students at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota.

The event will be filmed. Judges: Tania Granoff, Diane Hutchison, Jim Grijalva, Bruce Busby. The stage for the final judging will be the same as the stage set-up for last year's Grimmly Speaking™ performance in the Multi-Purpose Room.

Prizes:
- All entrants in the preliminaries will get a Kranky Kids® Drama Tournament Certificate attesting to their participation.
- All finalists will receive a DVD of the performance night and a Winner’s Certificate naming their standing as 1st, 2nd or 3rd in their category.
- 2nd and 3rd Prize Winners - All categories - A coupon for One Large Pizza at Spot Pizza in Los Altos and Palo Alto.
- 1st Prize Winners - All categories - 4 Platinum Cinemark Movie Ticket Coupons and a coupon for One Large Pizza at Spot's Pizza in Los Altos.
