Kranky KidsĀ® Films
One Waiter One Shift
The idea was to focus on one booth in a restaurant and show what occurred during the shift of one waiter. It was 2002, and an entirely new step for Kranky Kids because we were filming outside of the school and we had a bunch of brand new high-end equipment (which we didn't know how to use). This two and a half minute film was created for the duo-purpose of entering a Canon Digital Film Contest and to see if we could do a more professional shoot. We were able to finagle The Friendly Toast, a very popular restaurant in Portsmouth, NH, to allow us on its premises. Because we couldn't interfere with the restaurant's operation, the shoot took place from 3am to 7am on one day and one day only. Little kids don't like to be up at that hour, and frankly, neither do the big kids. Seven parents volunteered.
