The Swedish Red-and-White began as an amalgamation of several local breeds and strains (both highland and lowland); these became known as the Red Pied Swedish.
From 1847–1904, Ayrshires from Scotland were imported for upgrading.
In 1927, the Red Pied Swedish were merged formally with the Swedish Ayrshire population to form the Swedish Red-and-White.
