The Devon (aka North Devon, Beef Devon, Red Devon, Red Ruby) was originally a triple-purpose breed, but today is a beef breed.
The Pilgrims brought Devon cattle with them to North America in the 17th century. These cattle did not survive.
New, purebred Devons were not imported back into the USA until the 19th century - with many of them coming from the famous herd of Thomas William Coke, 1st Earl of Leicester. |
